It’s time to Celebrate the Sausage! With Lucas Butchers Classic

It’s thought that the first time the word “sausage” was used in the English language was in the mid-15th Century. Whether that’s the case, or not, we’re pretty sure that sausages have come a long way since then.

It’s thought that the first time the word “sausage” was used in the English language was in the mid-15th Century. Whether that’s the case, or not, we’re pretty sure that sausages have come a long way since then. Though their original physical form of “encased minced meat” hasn’t really changed at all, certainly other aspects of this international staple food must have moved on. We believe that the real difference with British sausages (and Lucas has contributed a great deal to this) is in the introduction of new flavours reflecting developments in taste, dietary preferences and the desire consumers have to try something different.

From good old Butchers Classic Pork Sausages to the most recent Vegetarian, the choice of sausages available now is fantastic. That means you, as a retail butcher, have the chance to really wow your customers this Autumn by offering them a choice of flavours, textures and colours.  National Sausage Week (28th October to 3rd November), Halloween (31st October) and Bonfire Night (5th November) all present the opportunity to sell lots of sausages. So, go for it!

Perhaps consider themes for these three events? Looking at the Lucas Butchers Classic range of complete sausage mixes, you could try a “Traditional” theme featuring Lincolnshire, Pork, Beef, Lamb & Mint, Tomato and the best-selling Cracked Black Pepper Mixes (and any others you can think of). For Halloween, we’re thinking Smokey(ghosts? Wraiths? Ethereal beings?) and certainly Lucas Smokehouse Smokey Maple & Chilli and Smokey Paprika will fit the bill. They’re pretty fiery too, so tasty thrills and surprises are included! For Bonfire Night, flavours with lots of sparkle, fizz and pop must be included. Looking at the Butchers Classic range again, there are plenty of choices that will work here: Thai Style, Tikka Style and Piri Piri all pack a flavour punch. Alongside Chilli & Coriander, Mustard and Moroccan, you’ll be able to put together quite a display.

We’ve just scratched the surface of what’s available in the complete range of Lucas Sausage Seasonings and Mixes, but hopefully, that’s a bit of inspiration to help you make the most of the up-coming series of events. There’s loads more on our website and it’s definitely worth a look.

It only remains for us to ask: Who needs fireworks at a celebration when such fantastic, fizzing, flavours are available in that most humble of offerings – the “simple” sausage?
